“Just go away,” Jason hissed, trying to hold the bathroom door shut against your pleas for him to just come out and talk to you.

Talking wasn’t for monsters. Talking was for normal people, with normal lives, who couldn’t hurt the people they cared about. Talking wasn’t for Jason- at least, it wasn’t anymore.

He’d been turned, his eyes blood red, fangs pushing out where his canines had once resided. He was a vampire, now, a monster among monsters, something only vaguely human. He was built to hurt people, but he wouldn’t hurt you.

“Leave me alone!” He shouted, pounding against the door as if it would scare you away. The wood creaked beneath his new inhuman strength, splintering slightly. “Go away, you’re only going to get hurt.”

He can smell your blood. Can hear your heart beating in your chest. It’s driving him crazy- he needs you safe, needs you out of his apartment, out of Gotham, he just needs you gone. Because if you’re gone, he can’t hurt you like he always does.

His mouth is watering. He feels sick when he realizes, curling in on himself as much as he can as he continues fighting to keep the door shut. He’s so hungry, and he doesn’t want to be, he just wants to be human again- he wants to be able to protect you.

He doesn’t want to hear your heartbeat anymore. He doesn’t want to catalog the way you’re breathing. He doesn’t want to crave blood. Especially not yours. He just wants to rest. He’s so tired.

“Please,” he begs, his voice breaking. “Please just go and forget about me. I’m dead to you.” And to the world, he wants to add, but he doesn’t. His heart is still and lifeless in his chest, but he’s still here.

He’s so tired of being a monster. He just wants to rest for once.
