So the thing is, Selina has absolutely teased Bruce, before, about his habit of 'taking in strays'. Oh, it was self-depreciating humor - she's one of them. Kids, partners, allies, sidekicks, what have you, the man knows how to pick 'em, and he tends to pick a certain type. And she gets a little laugh out of it, even if she'd never truly demean him for it. ...He's a good man, with a good heart, and he wants to help.

She, on the other hand, has rarely thought of herself that way. Selina's altruism is... reluctant, no matter how strong the streak might be. She's selfish and she won't apologize for it. And perhaps most of all, she's deeply independent. She's not looking to pick up a protege or team of her own here, is the point. Maybe she can admit, some days, to being part of Bruce's family by now, and alright so she has been known to 'pal around' with Ivy and Harley sometimes. And, yes, if she's needed by either party she'll be there, of course - but this alley cat is a solo act, who just deigns to assist the family at her leisure.

...But look. Maybe she's spent too long around Bruce. Maybe she's got a bigger soft spot in her than she likes to admit to herself. Maybe her memories of growing up alone on the streets are still too ingrained to shake. Or heck, maybe she just knows skill when she sees it, and has to respect the audacity of the hungry little street kitten that would dare try to pickpocket her.

It turns out? She's not above taking in a stray herself, apparently. "Make yourself at home," she offers, as she gestures you in to the apartment and tosses her own coat over a chair. Not her apartment, obviously - not her home. Not day one, she's not that trusting. No, this is a spare - a little 'safehouse' of sorts; she's got a few around the city. But it's got two bedrooms and a den and a kitchen; it'll do to get you fed and warm while she assesses... what the heck exactly she plans to do next here. ...Is she seriously considering taking you in? Well, she kinda already has, hasn't she?
