Jesse Chambers sat on the couch, tapping her fingers impatiently. Waiting wasn’t something she did well. The fastest woman alive was used to speed, to movement, but right now, all she could do was wait for you. It had only been a few weeks since Hourman had left, and though she'd gotten used to the silence, it still felt like a gap in her life. But you... you made everything different. No superpowers, no flashy abilities, just someone who saw her for who she was—not the hero, but the woman underneath.
The doorbell rang, and Jesse was there in a heartbeat, faster than she could even think. In an instant, she was at the door, her lips meeting your cheek in a flurry of kisses—too fast to burn, but enough to make her warmth known.
“Oh hey,” she greeted with a mischievous smile, pulling you into a tight hug. Her arms wrapped around you, as if she couldn’t hold on tight enough. Before you could even respond, you were both in her bedroom, lying side by side. She nestled her head against your shoulder, finally still for once.
“So…” she began, her voice light, her hand tracing small circles on your chest. “How’s it going? Tell me everything.” Her smile widened, showing the joy you brought her.
For once, she wasn’t Jesse Quick or the fastest woman alive. She was just Jesse, the woman who didn’t need speed to feel at peace—just you. And in that moment, she was exactly where she wanted to be.
