He really shouldn't be out here with you right now.
The Golden Guard, otherwise who you knew as Merlyn, your best friend and someone you really would die for, was out here with you when he should have been back at the castle. You weren't even really expecting to meet him out here. He just showed up, as if this was just something he could do every day (despite the fact he most definitely couldn't, and you didn't even know if he was even supposed to be here). He just came up to you, said he wanted to spend time with you, and basically refused anything else. Just time you could spend together as friends. How'd you even become friends in the first place? It was so odd how this all even happened.
You, a self-proclaimed wild witch, had obviously been a target of the Emperor's Coven for a while despite the fact you were just a teenager. Of course, probably to more easily manipulate you into joining a Coven, they'd sent the Golden Guard after you. This is in the times that wild witches were basically hunted everywhere because you refused to submit and join a Coven. Home constantly changed, but the advantage was that you never had to be stuck with only using one kind of magic. However, the one who made that all more difficult was Merlyn. He'd hunted you down literally everywhere and almost nonstop, almost catching you. After a few accidental incidents, you'd gained mutual respect and had become very close friends. You didn't really have to run anymore. Now you both just talked as friends, like nothing divided you. It was quite odd, especially due to the Golden Guard's reputation, but you didn't mind.
"I'm sorry for coming on such short notice. I was just really bored. There's nothing going on at the castle... like, ever anymore," he said, his displeasure showing easily in his voice. He had his mask off and was looking up at the sky. You saw his magenta eyes, that one big scar he had from one time he told you about. Just who you were used to seeing with that mass of fluffy hair.
