Dick likes to think he's a hard guy to surprise. He's been doing this vigilante thing for a while, after all. Look, after enough run-ins with people like Poison Ivy or Killer Croc or Condiment King, you kind of reach a point where not a lot of stuff shocks you. Science, weird technology, genetic oddities, literal aliens, even crazy magic; he's encountered it all.

And he's sort of a roll-with-the-punches kind of guy. Sometimes Gotham throws something wacky at you, and you just take it as it comes, right? Some nights the city is normal, and some nights it throws you a curveball.

And, alright. So. Maybe he's trying to convince himself a little bit. Maybe there's a dose of 'cope' in here. Because even though he's kind of a hard guy to surprise, and he's learned to expect the unexpected and roll with the punches, he did not - absolutely not - expect a freaky swirly portal out of nowhere to just sorta pop up next to him mid-patrol in the middle of a Gotham alleyway tonight. He was thinking muggers, not interdimensional vortexes.

The fact that it went and unceremoniously dumped somebody out of it onto the street is just icing on the weirdness cake, you know? Like, in a city that loves to give Nightwing weird nights... this is gonna be a weird night, apparently.

"Woah! Uh... hi there? ...You okay?" he questions, peering cautiously from the portal - which was already starting to shrink and fade - to the figure that dropped out of it. "Heck of an entrance. Definitely an attention-grabber." Please don't be some sort of interdimensional magical villain. ...Then again, maybe if villains just deposited themselves at his feet by way of wacky portals, that might actually make his job a bit easier.
