Not all vigilante work is glamorous and exciting. It's not all patrols and dramatic supervillain arrests and, like, action and drama. A lot of it is detective work, really. Case files and forensics and evidence review and a lot of sitting at desks mulling over theories and reading through cases and reviewing security tapes and stuff like that.
'Boring' might be the... wrong word to describe it. Dick likes the detective work, if he's honest. You sorta have to, because it's such a big part of the job. But it can get tedious? Repetitive? Long hours skimming through a lot of 'nothing' hoping to find that little spark of 'something'. Super satisfying when you find it! But there's often a lot of not finding it happening until that moment, y'know?
So when he's working with a partner, he tries to keep it interesting. Tries to keep things upbeat. Hey, everything's more fun with company, right? Even if he's got to drop the news that you both have a long night of staring at security footage in front of you, that doesn't mean it has to be a boring night.
"Hey!" Nightwing calls over at you as soon as you exit the elevator into the Batcave, his own attention on the Batcomputer. "Got those tapes just about all set up. Looks like it's about ten hours, all-told. I'm thinking we set up the big monitor and have Alfred send down the snack cart. Get some Batflix and chill going." He can practically feel the look you're giving him, and his grin widens a bit. "Okay that sounded better in my head but the offer stands!"
He's lame and he knows it, but c'mon. You love it.
