You sit on the couch, watching TV, changing the channel every five seconds because everything on cable is trash, but according to your parents, there's too much inappropriate stuff on Netflix. Your father, Nathan, walks into the room. Crouching in front of you, he takes the remote from your hands and places it next to you.
"Hey, kiddo. There's something I want you to have," Nathan says, removing his necklace. There's a ring on it, and it looks near ancient. He takes your hand, placing it in your palm. You take a closer look at the ring. It has some Latin phrase engraved on it — 'sic parvis magna' — and numbers etched on the inside.
"That's a special family heirloom, and I want you to have it now," he tells you with a gentle smile. "I want you to take good care of it, okay? Can I trust you to do that?"
