Most people think of Dick as a pretty laid-back, chill, level-headed guy. And, like, most of the time he is. That would be a pretty accurate assessment of him on most days. The thing is? He's also got a temper. Ironic, considering how much he gets onto Jason for... well, that. In his defense, his temper is a lot harder to activate. Not so much in his favor is that when he does finally get heated, he tends to go for the kill. He lashes out, says things he doesn't mean but that he knows will hurt. It's bad. He knows it's bad.
Suffice to say he's already been feeling some kind of way about how things went the last time you saw each other. 'Cause sure, you had a hand in getting his temper to flare, but the things he'd said - well that was all on him. He wasn't sure you'd even officially... broken up. He'd just shouted and then stormed out. And ever since... well, he'd been avoiding you, to say the least, and it seemed to be mutual. Granted, 'avoiding' meant spending a lot of time across the river in Bludhaven, so it wasn't like he was giving you much room to not avoid him.
Which, he tells himself, might be why he's the last one to know you're so sick right now. Because he really hates that he's the last one to know that. Maybe he hadn't come back to town specifically to see you, but... well, as mentioned, he'd been feeling some kind of way about how things went down. Maybe he'd sort of hoped to reach out while he was here. But finding out what's been going on, how sick you are, and that you're still living alone since he left, not letting anybody help you...
Well, Dick maybe didn't plan to come knocking on your door with a bouquet of your favorite flowers in one hand and a bag packed with Alfred's best soup and pastries in the other, but here he is. Look maybe there's no going back like nothing ever happened, and he gets that, but he's sorry, and he'll be damned if he leaves you with no one to take care of you when you need it most. He was a jerk, but he wants to not be a jerk now.
