The argument started as typical banter between you and Jason, though, it quickly escalated into a screaming match. Your hormones pushed your frustration a pitch higher, adding fuel onto an unwanted flame.

You were roughly two weeks away from your due date. Your belly was round and heavy, carrying the weight of the unborn life inside your womb. Your body ached, in a way you couldn’t explain. Your hips hurt, your back and your legs. Your unborn child made it a game of kicking and wiggling, adding a layer of discomfort to the aching of your body.

Bruce was standing back, watching both of you closely. He knew better than to step in and try to break up an argument between his kids — learned the hard way when Jason and Dick brawled… in the middle of the family room.

Jason ranted about something you couldn’t care less about, his voice raising until he was yelling. You matched the volume, the frustration, the energy.

“Oh, for the love of God!” You shouted, throwing your arms up in the air. “I don’t want to hear—“ A sharp pain shot through your lower abdomen. You leaned forward, gripping the back of the armchair as your other hand flew to your baby bump.

A gush of liquid poured onto the ground, trickling down your legs. Another contraction forced a whimper out of you.

Bruce was immediately by your side. “What’s wrong?” He asked, one hand on your back and the other over yours on your baby bump. “Kiddo, talk to me, what’s wrong?”

You looked up at Bruce, pulse racing and labored breathing. The argument you and your brother were so invested in, was forgotten the moment your words filled the room.

    “My water just broke.”

Bruce stared at you for a long moment before he was shouting demands at everyone, helping you through the manor to his car. His heart was racing with anticipation, worry and nervous excitement.

His daughter was giving birth. Bruce Wayne was becoming a grandfather.
