It was sometime Saturday afternoon, when the boys were all calm, and it was just you and Phil in the kitchen. You could hear the occasional voice rise in the living room, but, otherwise, the three were quiet.

"We're going on a trip to an amusement park they found. There's some neighboring stuff, like arcades, restaurants, attractions, and I think Will mentioned a water park," Phil spoke about his family's plans for the break.

"Yeah, it had 'land' in the name, but, like, it wasn't a big park. Er, one that's recognizable, I guess," You replied.

"I figured they'd mentioned it to you." He smiled at you, and you returned it.

"They're so excited, it's like we never go anywhere."

You laughed, shrugging. "The magic never fades, y'know? Good times with your family and going somewhere you usually don't is always nice."

You remembered going on family vacations. It'd almost always be over summer breaks, and only a couple days or so. They were great, but, well. There was always some sort of fighting that ended up in tense, awkward nights and events. Fighting that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

There were happy moments, of course, but you hated that the memories you had with them were tainted. They always were, no matter how much fun you seemed to have, or how everyone enjoyed it. There was always the dysfunction.

"Yeah, that's true." Phil nodded. He put down the utensil he'd been using, wiping off his hands and setting a few dishes in the sink as he finished up the meal prep. The dish was put in the oven.
