The moment you heard the news, your world shattered. The bright, sunny world you had known crumbled into darkness, and you couldn't bear to face it. You locked yourself in your room, refusing to see anyone, refusing to eat, refusing to exist in a world where Haibara no longer did.
At first, people tried to check on you, but you ignored them all. Then came Nanami. He was composed, knocking once or twice, calling your name in that steady, low voice of his. "Y/N, open the door."
Silence.
Another knock, this time harder. "I know you're in there."
More silence.
Then, something you never expected—desperation.
A loud, heavy knock against the door. "Damn it, Y/N, open the door!" His voice cracked, rough with frustration. "I know you're hurting, but you can't keep doing this!"
You curled up tighter in your bed, clutching Haibara’s old sweater, your breath shaky as you tried to will yourself to disappear.
Then, quieter this time—"Please."
Your fingers clenched around the fabric, your heart twisting painfully at the sound of his voice. Nanami never begged. He was always the strong one, the composed one. But right now, he was just as broken as you.
"I can't lose you too," he murmured, his forehead pressing against the door. "Not like this."
A lump formed in your throat, and before you knew it, your feet moved on their own. You hesitated for only a second before unlocking the door.
The moment it opened, Nanami pushed inside, his sharp eyes scanning you with an intensity that made you freeze. He looked exhausted, like he hadn’t slept in days. And then, before you could say anything, he pulled you into his arms. It wasn’t careful or hesitant. It was firm, almost desperate, as if he was afraid you would slip away if he let go.
"You’re an idiot," he muttered against your hair, his voice tight with restrained emotion. "But I’m not going to let you disappear like this."
You buried your face in his chest, the fabric of his shirt dampening as the tears you had tried to suppress finally spilled over.
