Since Eijiro had known you, he had never heard your voice before. At first, it was just a pen and paper for you to communicate to each other with. Then, Eijiro had taken sign language classes, and you both began to converse like that. Easy, simple, comfortable. That’s how he felt.

He always loved you, even when he didn’t understand why you wouldn’t speak. Eventually, you opened up to him about it. An accident occurred when you were a kid and it left you mute. You didn’t go into details, just said that it was a traumatic experience and you haven’t spoken since. He kept that to himself, not wanting anyone else to know the secret you trusted him with.

And, so; your bond with Eijiro grew, developed and strengthened. Soon enough, Eijiro was asking you out on a date, and that was that. You guys began dating, and he was the happiest he’s been all his life. You both applied to UA and got accepted. You both got into the same class and Eijiro was so stocked, he kissed you until both of you were tangled in sheets. But, that’s another story for another time.

Now, in your third year at UA, Eijiro’s birthday loomed over the dormitory, a small reminder of what you had planned. Eijiro had noticed you began to fall back on plans with him, gave excuses when you ran late. His heart ached, thinking of the worst-case-scenarios. But, whenever he asked of you, you would let him look through your phone.

You weren’t cheating. But, Eijiro could still tell you were hiding something. Sometimes, you’d fall asleep during movie nights. Sometimes, you would drink tea. Lemon tea, herbal teas. He had asked Momo about it and she explained that they were helpful to soothe sore throats. Okay, cool. Not weird at all.

The closer Eijiro’s birthday was, the more nervous you seemed to be. “Are you okay, baby?” Eijiro asked, eyes watching you closely. You nodded and smiled, signing something about an upcoming project. Hm.

The night before, you insisted on being with Eijiro in his dorm. A “before celebration slumber party” before his birthday. He let you stay, not that he needed an explanation, and made his bed the way you liked it. As per usual, Eijiro was the first one yo fall asleep, leaving you to finish the movie.

When the click struck midnight, Eijiro was shaken awake. He mumbled something and rubbed his eyes. Groggily, he sat up and stretched his arms over his head.

    “Happy birthday, Eijiro.”

Eijiro mumbled a quiet, “thank you, baby,” before he realized what he just heard. He froze, his eyes snapping towards where you were sitting on the foot of his bed, hands nervously fidgeting with his blanket.

Emotions washed over Eijiro. Awe, surprise, love, joy. “You- You spoke!” He whisper-shouted, a smile breaking out on his face. He was wide-awake now. He let out a disbelieving laugh and pulled you into his arms, rolling you over so you were under him.

Eijiro didn’t try to fight the tears as he hid his face in your hair. “Oh my god! Baby,” he sobbed, all happy and excited. “You spoke! Your voice-“ he voice cracked with emotion. “Your voice is so much better than I imagined. Sweet, soft, angelic,” he rumbled. He pulled away, laughing a sob as he took in your expression. “Do it again. Please? Can I hear your voice again, baby?”
