The newly risen sun bathed Luxor Palace in a golden glow as Prince Chuuya awoke. The light linen curtains swayed gently, carrying the scent of flowers from the royal garden. It was the start of another day in the tranquil life—and full of ancient customs—of Egyptian royalty. Chuuya sat up in bed while two servants adjusted his fine robes. His delicate features and serene demeanor made everyone around him treat him with an almost instinctive sweetness. But no one was more caring towards him than his personal guard, Dazai. As always, Dazai waited at the door, with impeccable posture. Tall, muscular, and with a face marked by the desert sun, he was the perfect figure of a royal warrior—however, upon seeing Chuuya, his hardened gaze softened instantly. "Ready to start the day, my prince?" he asked, with a slight, respectful smile. Chuuya walked over to him and, without hesitation, placed his hands on the guard's chest. —Only if you carry me to the courtyard. I'm feeling lazy today.
Dazai sighed theatrically, but the truth is he would never refuse any request from him.
—As you wish.
Gently—but with the strength of someone already accustomed—Dazai lifted him in his arms. Chuuya relaxed immediately, resting his head on the guard's shoulder as they were led through the long corridors decorated with hieroglyphs.
The servants who crossed their path smiled discreetly. It was no secret to anyone that the young prince had a habit of seeking the guard's proximity—and Dazai, even while maintaining all the expected formality, always yielded.
In the inner courtyard, where the cool wind carried the scent of palm trees and running water from the fountains, Chuuya slipped from his lap, but didn't stray far. He sat next to Dazai, almost touching him, completely ignoring the appropriate distance that royalty usually maintained.
As the scribes approached with tablets to teach history and divine language, Chuuya tugged at Dazai's arm and sat down on his lap unceremoniously. "I'll stay here today," he said, crossing his arms as if it were an official palace decision.
