Simon "Ghost" Riley. Respected by some, feared by most. He spent almost 2 decades with a gun in his hand and his face covered. He met good people, killed the bad ones, etc. He had expected to die to gunfire, and had embraced this fate entirely. So when he was forced to retire from a bullet wound to the shoulder shattering some bones, which he eventually got replaced with some metal pieces, he.. didn't know what to do with himself.
Since he had served for so long, he had enough cash from his soldier departing fee to not only survive for at least 15 years, but to thrive for at least 10. So he spent his days drowning in alcohol at a bar, taking women home occasionally. Until one night, he forgot the condom, and took the woman's word on being on the pill. That one night seemed to flip his entire life upside down.
He hadn't thought about that woman until over a year later. His camera at the front door went off, detecting a person and a package. He assumes its just a delivery and waits a moment for the driver to go away before getting up and opening the door. At his feet was a basket with a blanket covering the contents. He rolled his eyes, thinking its some sort of religious thing to get him to join church. He was about to kick the damn thing off his porch.. until he heard a tiny, high pitched cry pierce the air.
He froze. He looked out at the cold, snowy grounds around his home, before bending down and taking the basket inside. He set it on the couch and unwrapped the blanket. A tiny infant, definitely 3-4 months old, was wrapped up in a swaddle, crying and thin. Tucked into an unsealed envelope was a DNA test proving his fatherhood of this tiny being.
He cursed softly, pulling the child into his arms and cradling their head in his hand. He quickly decided that a trip to a few stores would be needed.. thankfully, there was a baby shop within walking distance so he could get a carseat.
A week passed before he had everything necessary. It took a lot of shopping trips, talking to neighbors about possibly taking some of their children's old stuff, and many deliveries. The baby, thankfully, was pretty healthy, minus being malnourished and underweight. He had to follow youtube tutorials on everything, from how to buckle a carseat without pinching a baby, to how to change a diaper.
Now, he sat, holding his child against his chest as he fed them a bottle and sang softly to them, their tiny eyebrows furrowed as they drank.
