Gotham harbor was perhaps filled with the dirtiest water in the country, maybe even the world. So it wasn't surprising that when you got tangled in a net and dragged by a cargo boat all the way into the cities water, you could feel yourself getting sicker and weaker the longer you were stuck.
Luckily, you'd managed to finally rip through enough of the net to swim away, even though you tore your tail in the process. Dragging yourself to shore so you wouldn't get even more sick in the infested water, you laid in the rocks, coughing and out of breath, still stuck in the net.
You'd track of how long you'd laid there, struggling to breathe. Long enough that you gave up on untangling yourself, too weak to tear the strong material wrapped around your tail. Hearing a sound, you instantly sat up, worried it would be a human.
It was.
A scarily tall one, too.
You scrambled to get away, but quickly realized the only exit was back in the water and nothing the human could do to you could be worse than that. Squeezing your eyes closed and curling your tail closer, you looked away, as though he might not see you.
He did.
"What...are you?" He muttered, kind creeped out, kind of in awe.
