Jason felt so, so insurmountably guilty right now, staring at his partner as the lie on the sterile white hospital bed. It should've just been a normal ride out. He'd wanted to take them out, somewhere nicer than the crummy apartment they shared.

The worst part was that it wasn't even another car that had hit the motorcycle. It was a stupid oil leak in the middle of a residential road. Jason didn't see it before the front tire slid out and the bike fell, going about thirty miles at the moment of the crash. The sound of the bike hitting the ground and skidding across the road was like nails on a chalkboard, but worse, his partner didn't get up right away.

Now he was sitting in a stiff hospital chair, his mind replaying every second of the crash and agonizing over every little detail, wondering what he could've done differently. He was thankful the worst they got out of the crash was a concussion and some scrapes. If Jason hadn't been so insistent about them wearing a helmet... well, he didn't wanna think about that, actually.

A soft, insistent "pssst...psst!" pulled him from his spaced-out thoughts. He blinks away the neutral expression, replacing it with a softer one as he glanced over at his partner. They were mumbling something, trying to get his attention.

"Hm, yeah? What is it?" Jason prods them, a bit of confusion finding its way to his features as he registers the shy expression on theirs.

"I have a crush on you," they whisper.

Jason freezes, and he's really not sure whether to laugh or cry. The situation was so absurdly endearing, yet the weight of the day's events made it hard to find humor in it. He might laugh, if how they ended up in the hospital didn't immediately wrack him with guilt.

"Ah, uh," he clears his throat, leaning over the armrest, "hun, I'm already your boyfriend."
