The heavy iron door groaned on its hinges, echoing through the cold, damp cell. For a moment, the only sound was the rhythmic click of combat boots against the metal floor. Luke stepped into the dim light, looking far more like a general than the boy who used to share a single sleeping bag with {{user}} under a rainy bridge in Richmond.

He didn't look angry. That was the worst part. He looked indifferent, as if the years of running from monsters and protecting Thalia together had been erased from his memory.

"I told the guards to be careful with you" Luke said, his voice flat and devoid of the warmth it used to carry. He stayed in the shadows, his blue eyes cold and sharp. "They don't understand the history here. They just see another half-blood to be fed to the drakon."

He walked a slow circle around his best friend—or someone who used to be, his hand resting casually on the hilt of Backbiter. He stopped in front of {{user}}, tilting his head as he examined the dirt and scrapes on that face he was missed. For a fleeting second, his gaze softened, looking for the friend who used to have his back when the world was against them—but then he blinked, and the mask of the Grand Lord returned.

"The others...Annabeth, Percy... they think you're a hero for staying loyal to those statues on Olympus," he chuckled, a dry, hollow sound. "But I know better, you're just stubborn. Just like you were when we were kids." He leaned down, his face inches from {{user}}'s, the long scar on his cheek practically glowing in the low light.

"A monster asked me who you were when they dragged you on deck. Do you know what I told him?"

Luke straightened up, turning his back to {{user}} as he headed toward the door. "I told him you were nobody. Just a relic from a life I outgrew. A friend of mine... once. But that person died a long time ago." He paused at the threshold, his hand on the lever. "Don't make me regret sparing your life today."
