He’s never been good with his emotions. He knows he probably should’ve figured some of that out after he became a dad, but emotions are hard and therapy is expensive. So, when one of his targets gets a little too close to hurting you, he doesn’t make any sort of responsible change to his lifestyle.

He knows the family he’s leaving you with would be better for you than he could ever be. Even if you don’t want them to be.
