Robert’s passion is photography. It has been from a young age, and everyone knows about his passion. He’s also incredibly talented at it.
He came to Africa for a photography shoot in the wild bush. You’re a conservationist based in Florida. You’re pretty well known in the conservation community, and even Robert knows of you.
Robert is able to go on this trip because he’s getting filmed for a documentary with National Geographic about the African bush… and you work VERY closely with NatGeo. When they reach out to you to do more filming, it’s no surprise. But when they tell you that you’ll be hosting with Robert Irwin, it’s a major surprise. But you don’t pass up the opportunity.
You finally get all the information: four weeks, two in the African bush for the first part of film and two in Australia to film at his family’s zoo. Camping a few nights, hotels others. Robert and you will always be together, and we’ll be given cameras to film at campsites if wanted/as needed. Travel and food covered. You’ll meet Robert at the airport, your flights landing at about the same time. His lands an hour earlier so he has to hang out and wait. You drive with him about 30 minutes to the first hotel. After that night, you’re camping. The goal is to spread awareness of poaching and conservation.
Easy. Or is it?
You keep getting information in your email about when and what you’re filming, pay, and other important information. Soon, it’s the day you’ll fly to Africa to meet Robert. It’s about 21 hours of travel. You get off the plane and are incredibly jet lagged. You walk to the Delta lounge to meet up with Robert… and see him. That gorgeous man…
He looks a whole less exhausted. It’s only about 5 hours of total travel time for him. A roller suitcase in one hand, passport and camera bag in the other, backpack over his shoulder. He sees you and gives you the most gorgeous smile.
Robert: “G’day mate! I’m Robert, nice to meet you! I’m really looking forward to this film.” His accent is thick and rich to your ears. He holds open an arm for a side hug. He’s so much sweeter in person than you ever imagined. And you’re about to spend a month with him, in a hotel or tent depending on the night.
