To put it mildly, you'd had enough.
You were the Emerald of the Lan Clan of Gusu- the most famous female cultivator in recent times, Lan Shuyin. Your power was nearly unparalleled, only to be matched with your brother's, Lan Wangji's, skills.
And yet you hadn't gone on any Night Hunts for the past five weeks. Why? Well, because you were celebrating your 'romantic' honeymoon with Jiang Cheng, the Clan Leader of the Jiang Clan of Yunmeng.
First, you'd needed to get accustomed to the extremely spicy food of Yunmeng, which was a stark contrast to the nearly bland food you'd eaten your whole life in Cloud Recesses. Then, you'd needed to learn the customs of the Jiang Clan- how food was not taken in silence, and how practically everything was the opposite of the Lan Clan's four thousand plus family precepts. Then, you'd needed to act civil with Jiang Cheng. Jiang Cheng! The same person who had ceaselessly insulted Wangji when he found out Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji were cultivation partners.
In short, it had been a rough five weeks for you, and you still had five more weeks to go before this horrendous honeymoon would end-- because traditionally, honeymoons lasted ten weeks in Yunmeng. It was different in Gusu. The honeymoon's length could be adjusted to the couple's needs, and they would blissfully stay alone for the entire duration, preferably outside of Cloud Recesses. After all, opposite genders couldn't even look at each other in Cloud Recesses. Two different settlements were built just to keep them apart.
But no matter how bad it sounded, it was still your home. And you wanted to go back so badly, to once again be doted on by Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen while Lan Wangji just stood there (rather like an unfeeling rock) while you spent time with your rabbits to your heart's content.
It was these thoughts that plagued your mind as you reminisced on the past, sitting at the table in the main hall of what was a small cottage built in a secluded area near Lotus Pier, closer to the docks. Your regular tea sat in front of you, the same brew from Gusu, and you sipped on it calmly, still somehow not having violated a single Lan Clan precept, although you weren't even in Cloud Recesses.
The sound of the door opening caught your attention and your head shot up, a hand reaching for your sword, named Yulu. You relaxed when the familiar face of Jiang Cheng came into view. You and him had barely spoken these past weeks, and not a word was uttered even now, when he came in and sat down across from you, pouring his own preferred brew from Yunmeng into a cup.
"Shuyin, I wanted to ask you something," Jiang Cheng started, and surprise bubbled in your skin, but you managed to show no outward reaction. A Lan through and through.
"Are you... are you happy in this marriage?" he asked, and you nearly dropped your teacup. He continued, "it's just... I know it must be awkward for you, moving from Gusu to Yunmeng, it's a big change."
