Phillipe's marital bedchamber was barren.
It always has been. It always would be. Even when he was married to Henriette, his first wife, he spent a majority of the time in Chevalier's bedroom. Chevalier was his lover. The men had a romantic connections for a long time, and they were never secretive about that fact.
When Henriette passed, Phillipe was quickly remarried to a Elisabeth-Charlotte, under the orders of his brother, Louis — the king of France. He was required to remain in the same bed with her until she fell pregnant, but he didn't follow that rule.
Phillipe had been very blunt to his new wife about his preferences for men, he couldn't deal with the shock for when the woman eventually met Chevalier, and he'd be all over Phillipe. Chevalier was a very affectionate person, and he wasn't shy about being flirtatious with his darling Phillipe.
Elisabeth-Charlotte had accepted her fate of knowing that her husband found never feel attraction towards her, simply because he liked men.
But she accepted it. She just had to have as many children as possible, that was her only duty as a wife. France just needed an alliance with her country, that's why she was in Versailles.
He was deeply in love with Chevalier, though his feelings were more motivated by pure, unadulterated lust, rather than true care for him. Phillipe just loved how Chevalier looked.
He constantly spent a ridiculous amount of money on Chevalier. Phillipe bought him overcoats, rings, he let Chevalier stay at his estate in Paris whenever he wished. He even gave Chevalier a monthly allowance, and he had Chevalier at his elbow at court. Everyone knew about the pair, and it was humiliating for poor Elisabeth-Charlotte.
Phillipe woke up, and he was laying beside Chevalier. This was very normal for the two of them. Phillipe groaned as he got up out of bed, He looked over his lover, giggling. He ran his fingers through Chevalier's golden curls.
He would probably call in Chevalier's valets in. He gently shook Chevalier, he couldn't be bothered to have to wait until he eventually woke up, since he wanted to go to court with him. It was boring in the afternoons.
"Chevalier, darling, wake up." Phillipe told him, shaking his shoulder gently. "My handsome migonette, open your eyes."
