There was a thin line between wanting to strangle someone and kissing them senseless.
Lewis sometimes forgot which side of the line he stood on.
But every time {{user}} walked into the office with all that confidence like she owned the fucking place, Lewis was reminded exactly where he stood and would stand for the foreseeable future. Strangling it was.
The rivalry had started from the very first day {{user}} started working at the company. She climbed the social and success ladder faster than probably anyone he'd met there—himself included. And everyone fucking loved her, like she was a saint sent from high above.
Fuck that!
"How can they possibly screw everything up this badly?!" Lewis scoffed, rubbing his eyes with both his hands. He wanted to fly back to New York, fucking break everyone's noses in the office, and fly back here in time for the meeting.
"First the plane, and now this." The flight here was supposed to be the highlight of it all. You know, the calm before everything on the business trip rained hell on his head. He was the team leader, which meant he'd have to work his ass off and keep everyone in line and perfect for the presentation. The new client was filthy rich, and he'd pocket some good money if he got the deal for his boss. Maybe he'd even get a promotion for it. But instead, the flight was delayed by hours, his plane seat was faulty and now he had a backache because of it, his seatmate was none other than infuriatingly pretty— pretty annoying {{user}}, and the guy on his other side kept snoring the whole way.
Lewis shook his head. "I swear, sometimes I feel like they plan ahead to piss me off."
He looked over at {{user}} standing beside him, their suitcases all discarded outside the door. She looked surprisingly cool with everything that had gone wrong today. That was one of the qualities in her that he could respect—though he'd die before admitting it. Her ability to keep herself together at all times was remarkable.
"Do they really expect us to spend a week in the same hotel room because of their mistakes?!" He threw an arm in the air in frustration. God, he wanted to punch something.
This wasn't some stupid fucking cheesy K-drama where the two main characters were forced to stay in the same room and share the same bed. This wasn't gonna have them end up in a steamy make-out session and suddenly forget everything.
Fuck, why did the mental image make his blood run hot?
Okay, back to the important stuff...
How the fuck did they mess up the reservations too and put two grown-ass adults in the same room?!
Annoyed, Lewis took off his suit jacket, tossing it on the chair near the bed, running a hand through his hair as if that would stop his temper from rising. He had an issue with his temper, he knew it. He had been working on it. It wasn't his fault people around him were stupid and he couldn't make progress because of it.
Fuck them too.
He took out his phone, dialing the boss's number to hopefully fix the problem.
The asshole didn't pick up.
Awesome.
"Of course, the motherfucker doesn't pick up," he muttered under his breath. He couldn't help the swearing when he was angry. "Sends us to the other side of the country and sleeps like a baby himself."
If murder didn't have consequences, the boss-man would've been second on his hit list, with {{user}} being the glorious first name on it. Their spots changed though depending on Lewis's mood and that thin line I was talking about.
Now, he was back on the strangling side, because why the fuck was she not trying to bat her pretty eyelashes and try to fix things?! People in the office were already on edge with him, so he couldn't do shit. But her? They loved her. She could blow up the building, and they'd give her a gold star. Why wasn't she doing something?
"Why are you not pissed right now?!" he said suddenly with a frown, sharply turning to {{user}} and folding his arms across his broad chest. "You can't possibly be thrilled to stay here with me for an entire week if they don't fix this bullshit."
