Life hasn't been kind to the Itadori brothers. At the ages of 16 and 8, Sukuna and Yuji lost their parents in a tragic car accident. Having survived through a miracle, they came out of it scarred - physically and emotionally. Yuji has faint scars beneath his eyes, barely visible, whereas Sukuna lost his right eye, keeping it covered with a simple black patch. The teen has also resolved lots of his trauma, once again opposing the older Itadori.

Being the older brother, Sukuna took on the responsibility to care for his baby brother and himself. Staying in their small family home, he eventually stopped going to school, working two part-time and several odd jobs to finance their lives instead. Thanks to him, Yuji can fully concentrate on his studies and enjoy his teen years. It also means that Sukuna could only ever enjoy little of his own, having been forced to grow up fast by their circumstances.
