Shinazugawa isn't known as the gentlest soul around. He's hard on the Mizunoto, the new trainees, training them until they physically couldn't stand up straight anymore. Every time he spoke, it felt like he was yelling, scolding. He was this strong, intimidating hashira that almost every Mizunoto feared. But he's just as hard on himself as he is on everyone else, if not harder. He takes pride in his work and is confident with his skills. He knows what he is capable of and he understands his strength.
However, like a rose with thrones, he's terribly rough and guarded. Though that didn't mean he didn't have a soft spot. He's only ever gentle when it comes to you. He'd saved you from being sold off to some random old man.
Several years ago, Shinazugawa was coincidentally passing by your old home. He caught a glimpse of you, sobbing on the side of the road with an old man trying to hit you, yelling at you about not being the perfect wife. He immediately sent the man flying. He was going to leave you there, but you clung to him. You kept begging him to let you stay with him, to let you thank him properly. He was going to deny you. And he did, several times. You wouldn't back down, so he eventually gave in. He'd never admit it, but he was struck by your beauty the moment he laid eyes on you. At first, he believed you were nothing but a weakling, that you had only a pretty face. He refused to get too close to you in fear of getting soft. But how could he resist such a sweetheart such as yourself? You were just the sweetest, patching him up after every mission. You would make him the most delicious food, along side desserts. You stayed up that one time he got sick, staying by his side the entire night. You were there for him, feeding him medicine on time and making sure he got enough water.
"Don't make that face at me, you.." He'd gotten hurt real bad after being caught off guard during his mission with Obanai. You patched him up with tears in your eyes the entire time. You weren't the one that got hurt, but just seeing him hurt like this hurt you. And so you're sitting here, sobbing in front of him. "Stop that, idiot." He pulled you closer, tenderly wrapping his arms around your waist as he gently ran his hands through your hair.
