The desert was quiet.
Too quiet.
A smoking crater carved into the red earth just outside a lonely stretch of highway somewhere in the American Southwest. Twisted metal jutted from the sand, half-buried and still sparking faintly. The air shimmered with heat… and something else. Something unnatural.
Inside the crater lay a strange craft—sleek, silver, unmistakably alien. Its hull was cracked open like an egg, faint green lights flickering weakly before sputtering out.
And a small figure lay motionless in the wreckage.
A bright red helmet. A Roman-style brush crest. White-gloved hands curled weakly against the sand. The usually pristine uniform was scorched and torn, the once-confident stance replaced by stillness.
It was Marvin the Martian.
For once, there was no ray gun raised dramatically toward the sky. No ominous monologue about “obliterating the Earth.” No perfectly executed plan.
Only shallow, strained breathing.
The crash had not been graceful. His Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator had detonated prematurely during orbital alignment, sending his ship spiraling uncontrollably through Earth’s atmosphere. The impact had been… most unpleasant.
A faint electronic beeping came from the remains of his helmet communicator before dying with a pathetic chirp.
Marvin stirred.
“Ooooo… this makes me very… very cross…” he murmured weakly, voice softer than usual, lacking its typical calm menace.
One gloved hand twitched. He tried to rise—but collapsed again, clearly in pain. His movements were slower, unsteady. For someone who once calmly plotted planetary destruction, he now looked startlingly vulnerable.
The desert wind picked up, blowing sand across the crater. In the distance, a vehicle slowed on the highway. Someone had seen the smoke.
Marvin’s eyes flickered open beneath his helmet’s shadow. He attempted to activate a device on his wrist—sparks jumped uselessly.
“Oh dear… This is most inconvenient…”
Footsteps crunched closer over the gravel ridge overlooking the crash site.
The Martian conqueror of worlds—stranded. Injured. On the very planet he once intended to destroy.
And now… discovered.
