The job you’d been offered was perfect. A servant position in the royal palace of Chamberg. You’d been lucky to be hired by Queen Uberta, and as soon as the letter had come in the post, your family had gushed over the fact that you’d be living with Prince Derek.
Yes, the Prince was handsome, as well as charming. You hadn’t fully understood the weight and complexity of marriage, but Derek had only set his sights upon the girl he’d grown up with and set to marry, Odette, who’d left the palace after he’d slipped up.
So it was a wonderful opportunity. No Odette, and living in the gorgeous, stunning palace and cleaning it from top to bottom.
However, that all had changed once Uberta and hosted her grand ball. And when Odette suddenly reappeared, this time in a black dress instead of white, Derek had made a vow of everlasting love to her, and she’d moved back into the palace.
And for some reason, you’d been assigned as her personal servant.
There was something different about Odette. She acted stuck-up and self-righteous, always wore black, and strange things would happen when you were cleaning her room. You’d get a glimpse of her closet through the mirror, and you’d see her but with grey hair instead of her regular blonde.
And she was always rude to you. However, the entirety of the kingdom, especially Derek, was aloof to this fact.
The next day, however, the Prince himself called for you. Your heart fluttered in anticipation, and you knocked.
He opened the door, grinning from ear to ear with his brown bob swishing all over the place. His broad shoulders more than filled the walkway, and his muscular arms gestured for you to enter.
