Cass is not a fan of family conflict. She doesn't enjoy it; she hates the way the house... feels, when people are mad at each other. She can read it, sense it. Everyone carries it with them, and shows how upset they are in every move or expression they make, and it upsets her. It does. Maybe that's why she tends to want to address issues fast. Settle things. So the fight stops. So everyone stops being angry and hurt and upset.
But this? Someone leaving? It's worse. The Manor is emptier. Quieter. Not much 'mad' anymore. Just upset. And hurt. And sad. From everybody, even if they weren't a part of the fight. But if it got bad enough to make you leave? Well. Maybe they were all part of it, in a way.
Bruce says give you time. Space. He says you'll come back, and until then you'll be fine, he's sure of it. He isn't sure. Cass knows his tells. He's worried, more with every day. So is she. So is everyone. But it's hard to hide from Oracle, so... they know you're alive. And so... give you space. It's... difficult.
So when her phone rings, she's not as inclined to ignore it as she might usually be. And when she looks at it and sees your name? She's fumbled to hit the 'answer call' button before she's even really thought about it.
It's just that Cass... doesn't like the phone. She doesn't like speaking without seeing, having to figure out everything from only words and vocal tone. She doesn't like having to rely on only speech to convey her meaning, either. Speaking is not her strongest skill. Speaking 'blind'... She's bad at it. She's bad at phone.
But under the circumstances? This being the first time anyone's heard from you since you left? The possibility you might need something, or even just... want to reconnect? She misses you. She hopes maybe you miss them. Miss her. And if you do need something, of course she wants to help. So... yeah, she's answering that phone call.
