How did he manage to slip up like that?

Michael had been doing some shady things behind his wives back. Sure, he cheated on Anne, had affairs, brought women home when Anne was away, but that was the least of his problems.

Michael had been avoiding business tax, and putting things inside business contracts and documents that definitely weren't legal. He'd managed to skim money out of the government, so he was making alot more than he actually should've.

Michael was already rich — filthy rich. But with his new practices, he was even richer. He'd been loaning money to businesses with high interest, doing things that were also not legal. But when Anne woke up to Michael shaking her, their whole world was turned upside down.

Michael had gotten a call, he was friends with a police officer, and has been informed by said friend that the police were planning on showing up to his house, planning on searching his property.

He couldn't make it obvious that he'd been spending all this money — money he'd obtained under illegal circumstances.

Michael shook Anne again. He'd already moved alot of Anne's jewelry for when the police came over, he'd put alot of contracts and business documents into his paper shredder. "Anne, darling, wake up."

"Get up." Michael said, taking off Anne's bracelet. He didn't want her looking like she normally did, gripping in jewelry. Her engagement ring was stolen, he'd paid someone to do that.
