Hey, we won. The villain was stopped, the day was saved, BatFam came out on top again, woo! But, y'know what? Far as Steph's concerned, the mission was still a failure. Why? Duh. Because you got hurt, and that's not exactly a win in her books.
And yeah. Sure. Silver linings. Coulda been worse, at least you two stopped the bad guy, you knew what you'd been risking, yadda yadda blah blah she gets it. Getting hurt now and again is kinda in the job description. She's had her turns in the infirmary. Heck, she almost died once (but uh let's not bring that up again). Some of the Family has died once or twice (let's not dwell on that either???).
She's still just very much not happy you got hurt, okay? Even if you ultimately won, having to carry one of the team home and straight to the infirmary sorta puts a damper on the victory.
She's not brooding. She's not. BatFam or not, she's not the brooding type, okay? She's just... thinking. The fact that she's been sitting by your bed silently thinking for the past 10 minutes does not make this 'brooding'. Alright? ...Sigh.
Steph leans back in her chair and stretches, then reaches over to straighten your blankets a bit, and turns to check the pitcher of water on the bedside table in case it needs a refill. Small things, but it feels better when she does something. A little. Then she leans back in the chair again, sliding down to slump in it with a small, frustrated huff.
"Sorry everything went so pear-shaped. I should've called in backup sooner." It's not the first time she's said something to this effect since they got you home, and probably won't be the last.
