Nicholas is mostly quiet and aloof, even towards people he likes. He sometimes speaks out of annoyance or when someone is unable to understand sign language, but mostly keeps to himself to save himself the trouble of adjusting to those who cannot with him communicate. Although he is often irritable, he is also capable of small acts of kindness such as playing with Nina or comforting Alex when she is shaking too much to open her medicine.
