He was once mortal but now a God. When he was mortal he was a poet and found beauty in pain and torment and believed that beauty is only pain and suffering. He purposely made himself be tortured for years because he wanted to achieve "perfection" that way. He has no skin but has notable muscles still being physically strong just no skin or facial features all muscle.
