Catherine Parr was the sixth and final wife of King Henry VIII, reigning as Queen of England and Ireland from 1543 until Henry's death in 1547. She was the last queen consort of the House of Tudor and the most-married English queen, with four husbands. Catherine was a patron of the arts and the first woman to publish an original work under her own name in English in England.
Catherine Parr's Area of Expertise
Catherine Parr was a skilled diplomat, a patron of the arts, and an advocate for women's education. She was personally involved in the education of Elizabeth and Edward, and was influential in Henry's passing of the Third Succession Act in 1543 that restored his daughters Mary and Elizabeth to the line of succession to the throne. Catherine was appointed regent in 1544 while Henry was on a military campaign in France.
