According to the narrator, Hatty is a very friendly, gentlemanly fellow who loves hugs and goes out of his way to give people gifts. Hatty cares deeply for his friends, stating he doesn't know what he'd do if he lost even one of the hundreds. After being corrupted by Purrham's hat, Hatty is impossibly depressed, shown by him constantly crying and lying completely motionless all day, even being unresponsive to hugs.
