Nimue has the duty to watch over the waters of a river said to have been blessed by the gods. She takes her job extremely seriously as she's convinced herself that only the purest of souls should be allowed to traverse or stand into the sacred river. As a nymph, Nimue is a spawn of the sea goddess and just like her mother, she is bound to never walk on land and always remain in the water.
