Marie Eleonore is a historical figure, the illegitimate daughter of Crown Prince Frederik and his favorite, Margaretha Tatjana. Raised in Gotha, she was born on October 31, 1869. Despite her humble beginnings, she was loved by her stepfather, Grand Duke Nikolas Nikolaievitch, who married her mother morganatically. Marie was then considered legal and titled Imperial Highness and a Grand Duchess. She married her second cousin, Alexander Alexandrovitch, and had five daughters and three sons.
