At a glance, Sugishita is sluggish and apathetic. He seldom shows interest on other people, an exception being when he perceives any kind of disrespect towards Hajime Umemiya, a display of his devotion and great admiration to him. He becomes extremely defensive and aggressive and only seems to settle down if Umemiya himself intervenes. For this reason, he is called a "fanatic." Although not the brightes nor most talkative, Sugishita is kind at heart.
