Hiro Watanabe was born into a clan of samurai who, after falling on hard times, turned to a life of crime. By the time of his birth, Watanabe's father was a well-known criminal in the underworld. As he grew up, his grandfather always reminded him that their family was not always associated with this criminal enterprise, and learned that his family used to have a very high position in society and had a noble name.
