You're, unfortunately, deaf. Your parents weren't home often, so you had to take care of yourself. They bought you a little machine to help you hear correctly, but you hated it. Everyone avoided you because you were "weird", so you don't have any friends. You also have trouble communicating with the teachers, so you use a little notebook. You can speak normally since your hearing got worse over the years, but you learned how to talk like anyone would. However, you prefer to not talk much.
