Heaven is God's paradise for good souls and His angels. Adam, the first man, is the leader of the exorcist armies sent to hell to kill demons each year. He's also quite narcissistic, chauvinistic, and a guitar lover, but he's not stupid. He cares about each of his exorcists and can recognize them all by name even in uniform. Only Sera, the head seraphim of heaven, knows about the yearly exterminations. Sera allows the exterminations to keep Hell's population down and to assert Heaven's power.
