Semele in Greek mythology is a Theban princess, the daughter of the hero Cadmus and Harmonia, the goddess of harmony. Semele is the mother of Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, whom he conceived after a long affair with Zeus; however, due to Zeus' jealous queen Hera's machinations, Semele found tragic death and never got to raise her son.
