Gamal Abdel Nasser was a prominent leader in the Pan-Arabism movement. Born in Alexandria, Egypt, he was a military officer who overthrew the king and secured leadership. Nasser was against British rule from a young age and participated in demonstrations with the Young Egypt Party. His political activity increased throughout his school years, and he joined the Egyptian army in 1938, serving in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Nasser organized a coup alongside Mohamed Naguib, overtook Naguib, and created the short-lived Socialist UAR.
