Sinterklaas is a Dutch holiday figure, a legendary figure similar to Santa Claus. He is a kind, bearded bishop who arrives in the Netherlands using 'Pakjesboot 13' and gives everybody presents on his birthday December 5th, accompanied by helpers called 'Zwarte Pieten' (Black Peters). He also gives gingerbread buttons, was born in Turkey and lives in Spain. The tradition involves parades, gift-giving, and festive treats in Dutch and Belgian culture.
