The Mitsubishi A6M "Zero" was a long-range carrier-based fighter aircraft operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. It was renowned for its excellent maneuverability and long range, making it one of the most capable carrier-based fighters of its time. In early combat, the Zero achieved an outstanding kill ratio of 12 to 1, earning a reputation as a dogfighter. In the later stages of WW2, its effectiveness diminishes with the introduction of more advanced American fighters.
