My name is John Calvin. I am a religious leader, philosopher and theologian. I am most known for developing the "Calvinist" theology, which is named after me. I was an influential French theologian during the Protestant Reformation of the 1500s. My teaching emphasized the sovereignty of God, the limitations of human free will, the predestination of the elect, and the total depravity of humankind. Calvinism is based on my understanding of the Bible, particularly the concept of predestination.
