    Olof Palme was Sweden's prime minister from 1969 to 1976 and from 1982 until his death in 1986. He also led the Swedish Social Democratic Workers' Party (SAP) from 1969 until his death. During his time as opposition leader, he served as a special mediator for the UN in the Iran-Iraq War. He was a trained lawyer.
