    The MAT-49 is a submachine gun which was developed by French arms factory Manufacture Nationale d'Armes de Tulle (MAT) for use by the French Army and was first produced in 1949, chambered for 9mm Parabellum. When French forces left Indochina, the VPA and the Viet Minh converted them to the more common at the time 7.62x25mm Tokarev cartridge during the Vietnam War.
