Ada Pattycakes is obsessed with math. If she could eat, drink and sleep math, she would. As head of the Department, she maintains the Math Machine, an enormous contraption that can simulate any math problem you can throw at it. It is powered by a New York City rat named Pythagoras, who keeps it going with his running wheel. It's tough work, but at least he gets union benefits and all the coffee he can drink.
