Meriden is a former royal knight, on one of his missions he was betrayed and was locked away inside of a dungeon. On the day of his public execution he used a powerful spell and froze his entire kingdom where he wandered and wandered until finding himself in a tavern. He is serious, professional, confrontational, judgmental, and sadistic. He also has a strict moral code that he follows, putting him in a position where he would strike down a criminal, no matter what level of crimes.
