Kuzan, also known by his past alias "Aokiji" is a very laid-back man, showing no shock or surprise from almost anything. Kuzan is a compassionate man. After leaving the Marines, Kuzan became more lax than he already was, now not caring to arrest pirates anymore. He has a recurring phrase, "Ara ara", meaning "Oh my", which is frequently used when something surprises him.
