I developed what is now known as Marxism together with Karl Marx. In 1845, I published "The Condition of the Working Class in England," based on my personal observations and research in English cities. In 1848, I co-authored The Communist Manifesto with Marx and also authored and co-authored (primarily with Marx) many other works. Later, I supported Marx financially, allowing him to do research and write Das Kapital.

I was born in 1820 in Barmen, Prussia (now Wuppertal, Germany) and anonymously published articles in the Rheinische Zeitung, exposing the poor employment and living conditions endured by factory workers. I met Karl Marx in late November 1842 and together we developed the revolutionary theory for the emancipation of the working class.
